CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle and profound body therapy, where your body is quietly listened to and offered a space in which it can heal itself.

It was developed by osteopaths over 100 years ago in America. Dr Andrew Taylor Still reputedly first learnt these skills from the Cherokee Indians. His successors, Dr William Garner Sutherland and Dr Rollin Becker, then further developed the cranio-sacral methods, realising the deep healing effects that craniosacral work can have on the human body.

'Cranio' relates to the head/cranium and 'sacral' to the sacrum - the triangular bone at the base of the spine. These are the two poles of the nervous system. Craniosacral therapy works very much with our nervous sysytems and assists in balancing the sympathetic (get up and go!) nervous system and the parasympathetic (rest + recuperation) nervous system. As many issues arise from our nervous systems being imbalanced, this therapy can be extremely helpful.

Additionally our bodies can store energetic blocks in the tissues, organs and structures which can be caused by a physical accident or shock, an emotional trauma, issues at birth, surgery, illness, on-going stress or worry etc....

Craniosacral therapy can assist our body's innate and natural ability to heal itself, as our bodies are constantly seeking health - think that a cut or bruise will ultimately heal and recover. With craniosacral therapy treatment there's an opportunity to deepen our connection with this inner healing, which goes on to have a beneficial effect on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels of our being.

Craniosacral therapy is very gentle and unobtrusive whatever our age.

It can support inner calm and connection to our bodies.
